- Winter cycling gloves are designed to keep your hands warm. Many models incorporate some waterproof membrane to prevent the insulation layer getting wet. They are shaped so they're comfortable in the usual riding position so the fingers are usually pre-curved. If your riding position puts a lot of weight on your hands, choose gloves with padded palms. Alternatively, wear your summer cycling gloves underneath a slightly larger pair of insulated winter gloves.

- Jerseys - Short Sleeve
- Short sleeved cycling jerseys are the classic piece of riding apparel. Designed to fit close so they don't flap around, they use technically advanced fabrics to wick moisture away from your skin and keep you comfortable. Most have deep front zips for extra ventilation on long climbs. Casual-looking models are a much better bet than a cotton T-shirt which will get loaded with perspiration on a climb and chill you quickly when you accelerate down the other side.

Neoprene is great at keeping your feet warm, even in filthy weather and it stretches to fit. - The Best Base Layers
- A base layer is designed to wick moisture away from your skin. That means you stay comfortable when you're working hard and perspiring. More importantly, you don't get chilled when you stop. In summer, wear a base layer on its own. When the weather takes a turn for the worse, you can add a fleece or other wicking mid layer for insulation. A breathable windproof or waterproof outer layer completes the system and will keep you warm and comfortable in all conditions.

- Close fitting, stretchy tights are the best way to keep your legs comfortable when the weather turns cold. Fleecy backed fabrics are comfortable next to your skin and stay warm, even when they're wet. Look for double-layer knees to keep your joints toasty. Calf-length tights are great for days when it's not too cold but you want to keep your knees warm.
